Department of Animal Science and Technology
The Department of Animal Science and Technology can be dated
back to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary
Science of Beijing Agricultural College( Nowadays, this college
is already renamed as Beijing University of Agriculture in
English£¬BUA), which was established in 1956. Following the
stable advancement of its size and level, the Department of
Animal Science and Technology, with the ratification of Beijing
Municipal Education Commission, was officially set up in August
1998. Nowadays, there are 2 undergraduate programs ¨C Animal
Science and Veterinary Medicine with a total enrolment of over
650. Furthermore, there are also 2 master¡¯s programs of Clinical
Veterinary Medicine and Basic Veterinary Medicine, with a
postgraduate enrolment of more than 90. Therefore, a multi-level
educational system has been founded with the undergraduate
schooling as its mainstream.
In this department, a creative and energetic faculty team with a
strong research ethos and rigorous professional altitudes, is
mainly responsible for its reasonable advancement. Among the
total 43 faculty and staff in service, there are 7 professors
and 14 associated professors, 11 with doctoral degree and 27
with masters¡¯. 2 of them have been selected as the Leading
Scholars of BUA. Meanwhile, the laboratory facilities have also
been updated as well. There have been 1 key Lab of Beijing
Municipal Government( Chinese Traditional Veterinary Medicine
Lab), 1 key discipline of municipal level( The Clinical
Veterinary Medicine Lab ) , and 1 key discipline( the Basic
Veterinary Medicine Lab ) of BUA. There are also other 9
standard teaching and primarily research labs, such as Animal
Embryonic Engineering Lab, Animal Propagation Lab, Animal
Nutrition and Feed Science Lab, Preventive Veterinary Medicine
Lab, etc. Most of them have been equipped with the latest
instruments and facilities. Consequently, it has also been with
a plenty of achievements on research in its special distribution
and distinction of the animal embryonic engineering, animal
nutrition, significant animal epidemics prevention and control,
bio-drug test, Chinese traditional veterinary medicine, etc. In
the past three years, this department has completed over 40
research projects funded by both the central and municipal
governments, and has been awarded with more than 30 research
prizes of various levels. More than 150 books and papers have
been published as well.
Following a 50- year vigorous career , more than 5000 bachelors
has graduated from this department, and it has also trained
thousands of people working in the front lines of animal science
and veterinary medicine as well. Some of those students have
already been the leaders of this special field in Beijing.
Therefore, it has become the cradle for the senior professionals
of both animal husbandry and veterinary medicine in Beijing.
